How does the ReFirme™ procedure work?

Skin is made up of three layers; The outer layer is called the epidermis, the middle layer is called the dermis, and the internal layer is called the subcutaneous layer.

The epidermis is the thin, protective outer layer of the skin. It has 5 distinct sub-layers but is mostly made up of dead skin cells which are held together by the fats and proteins that are secreted by underlying skin cells. This layer of skin is renewed every month or so and is constantly shedding dead skin cells.

The dermis is the middle layer of the skin. There are two sublayers where blood and lymph vessels, hair follicles, sweat and oil glands and nerves are found. This is also where Dermal cells called Fibroblasts manufacture collagen and elastin which give our skin its resilience, strength and flexibility. When collagen and elastin break down, we find our skin begin to sag and wrinkle.

The subcutaneous tissue is a layer of fat and connective tissue that contain the larger blood vessels and nerves.
