What is microneedling and how does it work?
Valley Medical uses traditional, non-radiofrequency microneedling with the Dr Pen A20 Professional Series. Fine needles create controlled microchannels in the skin, prompting a natural repair response that supports collagen remodeling.
What can microneedling help improve?
It may improve the appearance of fine lines, uneven texture, enlarged pores, acne scars, selected surgical or injury scars, stretch marks and some uneven pigmentation. Your provider will confirm whether it is appropriate for your concern.
What does treatment feel like, and how long does it take?
Most patients describe pressure, vibration, scratching or prickling. Sensitive areas may feel stronger, and a topical numbing product may be used when appropriate. The microneedling portion often takes about 15-30 minutes; the complete appointment is longer.
What will my skin look and feel like afterward?
Temporary redness, warmth, tightness, tenderness, dryness, mild swelling, rough texture or light flaking can occur. These effects commonly settle over several days, although deeper treatments may take longer.
When will I see results, and how many treatments will I need?
Improvement is gradual as collagen remodels. Changes may appear within several weeks and continue over several months. Many patients benefit from a series; the number, spacing and any maintenance treatments depend on the concern and skin response.
Is microneedling suitable for all skin tones?
It can often be used across a wide range of skin tones. Because temporary or longer-lasting pigment changes are possible, your provider will assess skin type, recent tanning and pigmentation history before selecting treatment settings.
When should treatment be postponed or avoided?
Treatment may need to be delayed for sunburn or a recent tan, active rash or infection, open skin, a cold-sore outbreak, inflamed acne or significant irritation. Certain medical conditions, medications, pregnancy, breastfeeding, poor healing or a history of keloid scarring require individual review.
How should I prepare, including facial shaving?
Avoid tanning and prolonged sun exposure for two weeks. Stop retinoids, exfoliating acids, scrubs and other listed active products 5-7 days beforehand unless directed otherwise. If facial hair overlaps the treatment area, closely trim or shave about 24 hours beforehand rather than on appointment day. Arrive with clean skin.
When can I use makeup and skincare again?
For the first 24 hours, use only the soothing or healing product recommended by Valley Medical unless your provider directs otherwise. Restart gentle products first, then wait until the skin is comfortable before reintroducing makeup or active ingredients.
What should I avoid after treatment?
For the first 24 hours, avoid exercise, sweating, hot water, steam, saunas, swimming and hot tubs. Minimize direct sun exposure and avoid tanning. Peels, waxing, lasers and other procedures on the treated area should wait about two weeks or until cleared by Valley Medical.
What are the possible risks?
Common temporary effects include redness, tightness, dryness, peeling, itching, discomfort, bruising or pinpoint bleeding. Less common risks include infection, pigment changes, cold-sore reactivation and scarring. Results vary and cannot be guaranteed.
