What is eMax DSL laser hair reduction and how does it work?
The Syneron eMax DSL applicator combines optical energy with bipolar radiofrequency. Light is absorbed by pigment in the hair and follicle, RF adds controlled heating, and contact cooling helps protect the skin surface and improve comfort.
Is laser hair reduction permanent?
The goal is long-term or permanent hair reduction, not guaranteed complete removal. Hair density, calibre and regrowth rate may improve, but response varies. Some hair can return over time and maintenance treatments may be recommended.
What results can I expect, and how many treatments will I need?
Only follicles in a responsive growth phase are useful targets, so a series is commonly needed. Session number and spacing depend on the area, hair cycle, hair and skin characteristics, prior response and Valley Medical's approved protocol. Results cannot be guaranteed.
Which areas can be treated?
Many facial and body areas may be considered. The exact treatment field, boundaries and exclusions depend on anatomy, hair pattern, skin condition, tattoos or permanent makeup, lesions and the device's approved instructions. Your practitioner will confirm suitability.
Which hair and skin types are most suitable?
Coarse, visibly pigmented hair is usually a clearer target. Grey, white, red, very blond, fine or vellus hair may respond poorly or unpredictably. Suitability is individualized after assessment of skin type, tanning, pigment history and other safety factors.
What does treatment feel like, and how long does it take?
You may feel brief warmth or an electric-like snap while contact cooling is applied. Sensation and appointment length vary by person and treatment area. Report sharp, focal, escalating or persistent pain immediately so treatment can stop and the skin can be reassessed.
When should treatment be postponed or avoided?
Treatment may be delayed for pregnancy, infection, open or inflamed skin, sunburn or tanning, impaired sensation or healing, a photosensitizing medicine or condition, or a recent procedure. Implanted devices, metal, tattoos, permanent makeup and dark or uncertain lesions require individual review.
How should I prepare for my appointment?
Avoid tanning, meaningful sun exposure and self-tanner. Keep the hair root intact; trim or shave only by the method and timing Valley Medical provides. Report medication, health, pregnancy or procedure changes, and arrive with clean, dry skin free of products.
When can I shave, use deodorant, makeup or regular skincare again?
Resume shaving, deodorant, makeup and regular products only when the skin is intact and comfortable and your written plan permits. Use gentle cleansing and bland skincare while sensitive, and ask when to restart retinoids, acids, scrubs or other active products.
What should I avoid after treatment?
Avoid rubbing, picking, aggressive exfoliation, tanning and unnecessary sun. Limit heat, steam, hot tubs, friction and strenuous exercise while warmth, redness or swelling persists. Do not force hair shedding or schedule another treatment until your response is reviewed and the approved interval has elapsed.
What are the possible risks, and when should I contact the clinic?
Possible risks include pain, burns, blistering, prolonged redness or swelling, infection, pigment change, altered sensation, eye injury and scarring. Contact Valley Medical promptly for blistering, increasing pain, progressive swelling, discharge, spreading redness, open skin, marked crusting, visual symptoms or any unexpected reaction.
When will the treated hairs begin to shed?
Treated hairs may seem to grow before shedding naturally over time. Do not pull, pick or mechanically force them out. Shedding and visible reduction vary by area and person, and change may appear uneven or patchy during a series.
Can I wax, thread, tweeze, epilate or use electrolysis between treatments?
Do not remove hair from the root unless Valley Medical specifically permits it. The follicular target must remain present for treatment. Tell the clinic if hair was recently removed from the root so the timing of your next session can be reviewed.
What happens during a treatment appointment?
Your practitioner confirms the area, reviews interval changes and checks the skin before selecting the approved plan. Everyone in the room wears protective eyewear verified for the laser. The cooled applicator is placed on the mapped treatment area while you provide comfort feedback.
When can I exercise or return to normal activities?
Most routine activities can resume according to your written aftercare plan. Avoid strenuous exercise, excess heat, steam and friction while significant warmth, redness or swelling remains. Resume activities gradually when the skin is intact, comfortable and behaving as expected.
How should I protect the treated area from the sun?
Avoid tanning and unnecessary sun exposure. Use broad-spectrum SPF 30+ and physical protection as directed. Report a new or fading tan, sunburn, self-tanner or meaningful skin-colour change before the next appointment because treatment may need to be postponed.
Why might my treatment settings change between appointments?
Settings are individualized for the treatment area, hair and skin characteristics, current tan status, comfort, prior endpoint and healing response. Your practitioner may adjust or defer treatment to remain within the clinic's approved protocol; settings are not increased simply to make treatment feel stronger.
Will I need maintenance treatments?
Maintenance may be recommended because regrowth can occur and hair patterns can change over time. The need and timing vary by person, area and response. Your practitioner will review shedding, regrowth, skin response and goals before recommending another session.
