18 questions

What is eMax IPL Skin Renewal and how does it work?

eMax IPL Skin Renewal is performed with the Syneron eMax platform and an approved SR-family applicator. It combines filtered intense pulsed light with bipolar radiofrequency: light pre-heats selected pigment or blood-vessel targets, RF adds controlled heating, and contact cooling helps protect the skin surface.

What can IPL Skin Renewal help improve?

Treatment may improve selected superficial benign pigmented and vascular concerns, such as freckles, sun or age spots, small visible vessels, redness associated with rosacea, poikiloderma and angiomas. It is not a diagnostic or cancer-screening tool, and uncertain or changing lesions require medical assessment.

What does treatment feel like, and how long does it take?

Most patients feel brief warmth or mild discomfort with each pulse. Sensation and appointment length vary by person, target and treatment area. Tell your practitioner immediately about sharp, focal, electric, escalating or persistent pain so treatment can be stopped and the skin reassessed.

What will my skin look and feel like afterward?

Temporary redness, warmth, tenderness or mild swelling may occur. Pigmented spots can darken or lightly flake before fading, while vascular areas may briefly look darker or redder. Contact Valley Medical if symptoms are unexpected, worsening or last longer than advised.

When will I see results, and how many treatments will I need?

Improvement develops gradually as treated pigment or vascular targets settle. A series or maintenance treatment may be recommended under the clinic's approved protocol. Response varies by target, skin type, area and prior exposure; clearance may be partial, recurrence is possible and results cannot be guaranteed.

Is IPL Skin Renewal suitable for all skin tones?

Suitability is individualized. Your practitioner will assess skin type, current or recent tanning, melasma tendency, pigmentation history and prior reactions before selecting an approved protocol. Darker phototypes or prior pigment change may require added caution, conservative planning and a test spot.

When should treatment be postponed or avoided?

Treatment may need to be delayed for pregnancy, infection or a cold sore, open or inflamed skin, sunburn or tanning, impaired sensation or healing, a photosensitizing medicine or condition, or a recent procedure in the area. Implanted devices, metal and suspicious lesions require individual review.

How should I prepare for my appointment?

Avoid tanning, meaningful sun exposure and self-tanner, and follow the product-pause instructions provided by Valley Medical. Report medication, health or pregnancy changes and recent procedures. Arrive with clean skin and no makeup, skincare, sunscreen, deodorant or body lotion on the treatment area.

When can I use makeup and skincare again?

Use gentle cleansing and bland, fragrance-free skincare as directed. Resume makeup only when the skin is intact and comfortable. Follow your written aftercare plan and ask Valley Medical when to restart retinoids, acids, exfoliating pads or scrubs, benzoyl peroxide, strong vitamin C and other active products.

What should I avoid after treatment?

Do not pick, peel or scrub darkened or flaking areas. Avoid tanning and unnecessary sun exposure; use broad-spectrum SPF 30+ and physical protection as directed. Avoid excess heat, steam, hot tubs and strenuous exercise while significant warmth, redness or swelling persists, and postpone other procedures until cleared.

What are the possible risks, and when should I contact the clinic?

Possible risks include pain, burns, blistering, crusting, prolonged redness or swelling, infection, pigment change, altered sensation, eye injury and scarring. Contact Valley Medical promptly for blistering, increasing or persistent pain, progressive swelling, discharge, spreading redness, open skin, marked crusting, visual symptoms or any unexpected reaction.

Which areas of the body can be treated?

Common approved areas include the face, chest, hands and arms; selected isolated lesions elsewhere may be considered. Thee exact area depends on the target, anatomy, skin assessment and approved protocol.

Is IPL Skin Renewal the same as a laser treatment?

No. IPL delivers filtered broad-spectrum light rather than one laser wavelength. eMax Skin Renewal also adds bipolar radiofrequency and contact cooling.

Can brown spots and redness be treated during the same appointment?

Sometimes. Thee applicator can address selected benign pigment and vascular targets, but your practitioner decides whether treating both in one visit is appropriate.

Is there any downtime after treatment?

Downtime is usually limited, but redness, warmth or swelling may occur and pigment can darken or flake. Follow your written aftercare instructions before resuming makeup or active skincare.

What happens to dark spots after IPL treatment?

Pigmented spots may darken, grey or lightly crust before fading. Let them shed naturally; do not pick, peel or scrub. Contact the clinic for blistering, open skin or worsening pain.

Can IPL Skin Renewal treat melasma?

Melasma requires caution because light, heat and inflammation can worsen or reactivate pigment. IPL is not automatically appropriate and may be deferred or require dermatology-led management.

Can IPL Skin Renewal treat active acne or acne scars?

Thee SR-family Skin Renewal treatment is not intended for active acne or acne scars. Thee ePlus system uses a different applicator for moderate inflammatory acne; scars require a separate assessment or modality.
