Vein conditionsStart with what you have.

Plain explanations of the conditions we treat, written by the people who treat them.

Most people arrive knowing what their legs do, not what it is called. Start with whichever of these sounds like you, or book an assessment and let the scan answer it.

Where to start

Conditions we treat

Four of the most common reasons people come to the vein clinic.

The bulging, twisted veins you can see are usually a sign that valves deeper in the leg have stopped doing their job.

The fine red, blue or purple clusters on the legs and ankles. Often cosmetic, sometimes painful, and occasionally a clue to something deeper.

The veins in your legs carry blood upward against gravity. When their valves fail, blood falls back and pressure builds, and that pressure is what causes the damage.

Legs that ache, swell or feel heavy by the end of the day are worth explaining, even when there is nothing obvious to see.

The vein clinic difference

One visit. Not two years.

Vein patients used to wait more than two years and make several trips before seeing a specialist. Integrating ultrasound testing with the surgeon consultation turned that into a single appointment.

  1. Step 1

    Ultrasound

A certified ultrasonographer maps your veins and circulation prior to your consultation.

  2. Step 2

    Surgeon consult

Your vascular surgeon reviews the results with you and explains what they mean.

  3. Step 3

    Your plan

Treatment, compression therapy or prevention advice, based on your results.

Not sure which one is you?

That is what the assessment is for. A scan, a surgeon who reads it with you, and a plan.
