This is the question we are asked more than any other, so here is a straight answer rather than a hopeful one.

EVLT is not currently covered

To date we have found no Canadian health insurance companies that cover the cost of endovenous laser treatment. We would rather tell you that up front than have you discover it later.

What we can do is give you the information to make a coverage request. Some patients have extended health plans that assess procedures case by case, and a detailed description of the treatment and the clinical reasoning behind it is what those assessments turn on. Ask us and we will prepare it.

Some treatment does have public and private options

Spider vein treatment at our clinic has both private and public payment options available, depending on your situation. This is worth raising at your consultation rather than assuming one way or the other. What applies depends on the clinical picture, and that is exactly what the ultrasound establishes.

Compression stockings are often the coverable part

Many extended health plans do cover graduated compression stockings, particularly where there is a documented medical need. Our four certified fitters help patients navigate insurance and brand selection as a matter of routine: it is part of the fitting, not an extra.

Why the cost comparison is not simple

It is tempting to compare the price of EVLT against the price of doing nothing. The more useful comparison is against traditional ligation and stripping surgery, which is a hospital procedure with general anesthesia, stitches, and a genuine recovery period during which most people are not working.

EVLT is a minimally invasive, in-office procedure using local anesthetic and no stitches. Most patients walk out of the office and return to normal activities immediately. Time away from work is a real cost, and for many patients it is the larger one.

Ask us before you rule it out

We would rather have the conversation about money early and clearly. Bring it up at your consultation and we will tell you exactly what your options look like.
